The original State House building is a designated National Historic Landmark, the top tier of significance in historic American buildings. This Georgian period structure along with its Dome structure possesses the pinnacle of quality workmanship and materials for the period and has been well preserved albeit with various significant alterations. A large Annex was constructed on the north side of the original building in 1905 in the Classical Revival style.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Phase II of the Maryland State House project began with a full exterior restoration of the original state house building and added annex, including the roof of the state house and the restoration of all windows.
RESEARCH & DOCUMENTATION
The project began with a comprehensive existing conditions survey, analyzing every area of the building. The findings were carefully documented, culminating in a report that outlined restoration recommendations. These recommendations aimed to return the State House and Annex to their original grandeur while thoughtfully updating the surrounding property as well.The report included multiple renderings and images that were thoughtfully designed to showcase different variations of restoration recommendations.
RESTORATION
Initial construction began in 2023 with the start of new slate roofs, flashings, and gutter linings on the 1772 building and repair maintenance of the flat roof on the Annex. The building also received a full window restoration and a full exterior refresh, which included:
The later metal cornice of the 1772 building is being moved to a shop to be repaired, restored, repainted and reinstalled.
100% brick and stone repointing of the Annex and partial repointing of the 1772 building
Restoration of random foundation stone and pointing on 1772 building
100% masonry cleaning
Restoration of grand north portico tympanum including carved relief sculpture and staircase
Internal alteration to provide for services entrance with service elevator

Meticulous restoration of the original brick jack arches at all windows of the 1772 building. .
100% removal of Annex window sash and partial removal of 1772 window sash to a shop where full stripped and restored, and reinstalled.
Restoration and redesign of ground floor entrance at street level (primary and ADA entrance) to building complex with restoration of Annex portico undercroft and expansion of entrance plazas.
