Gilmer Hall at Hampden-Sydney College, is a three-story educational building, originally built in 1968 for science labs, classrooms, and offices. This renovation project will evolve Gilmer Hall from a home of scientific discovery to a crucible for developing leaders in business, finance, economics, government, foreign affairs, and national security.
The scope of this transformative project includes:
Maintaining the historic corridors typical of classroom buildings, while refreshing finishes and creating a more inviting main entry lobby y
Enhancing the rear lake-side entry with a new ramp, steps, and trellis
Exposing the concrete structure and high ceilings at larger classrooms
Upgrading building systems, including sprinklers and a modernized HVAC system
The next chapter of Gilmer Hall aims to create an environment where ideas flourish, where collaboration drives innovation, and where young men develop the confidence to lead. This project is seeking Historic Tax Credits and will meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Rehabilitation.
