Uris Library, designed by Cornell University’s first architecture student, William Henry Miller, opened in 1891 as the university’s first library. This iconic structure features Ohio buff colored sandstone and a copper roof, both of which have weathered over time, leading to necessary repairs to preserve its historic character.
The current project focuses on restoring the library’s exterior and the adjacent McGraw Tower. Key efforts include:
Conducting a preliminary building envelope conditions assessment
Repairing and improving masonry
Replacing the roof
Upgrading the roofing snow melt system’s electrical components
