PROJECT OVERVIEW

In September of 2012, the State of Maryland commissioned MCWB to assess the findings of the John Greenwalt Lee Company regarding the restoration of the Old Senate Chamber at the Maryland State House. The firm was tasked with additional investigations to characterize the room as it appeared in 1783, the year George Washington stood before Congress to resign his commission as General of the Army.

ARCHITECTURAL INVESTIGATION

MCWB worked closely with the Maryland Historic Trust throughout the investigation, design, and restoration process. The team assimilated prior research and conducted further studies, utilizing textual and visual records, physical evidence within the Senate Chamber, and a comparative analysis of similar buildings in Annapolis. These efforts led to detailed recommendations for the restoration work.

RESTORATION

MCWB prepared the necessary construction documents and was deeply involved in every stage of the project, overseeing the detailed restoration of the Old Senate Chamber through to its completion.

Every project tells a story—crafted with care, shaped by history, and built to inspire for generations.
